3 Tips to Survive the Slog

This is my gentle reminder to you.
You can survive the slog.

We’ve got to generate some joy here.

It is getting hard. Many of us are getting tired of the muck of it all.
It’s not over yet and there’s no clear end in sight.

It’s time to create some fun and add some spice.

Otherwise we might not like who we’ve become when we are on the other side of COVID-19.

3 Tips to Survive the Slog:

  1. If you’re in a hole – and it’s going to happen – get yourself out of that hole.
  2. Make your own fun.
  3. Create your After-COVID-Self.

If You’re in a Hole – Get Yourself Out – TODAY

You may have fallen down the “It sucks” hole.
Or the “I’m on my own” hole.
The “Nobody loves me” hole.

Minimize your stay down there.
Don’t get comfortable.
Refrain from decorating and re-arranging the furniture.

Get the hell out.
Claw your way out or send up a flare.

Ask for help.
Call a friend.
Text an S.O.S.
Get a coach.

You may need someone to throw down a rope to hoist you out of there.
Someone to give a hand to pull you out.

And that is completely OK and understandable.
Get yourself out of the hole with whatever means possible.

Usually it involves changing your thoughts.
And a box of tissues.

Make Your Own Fun – TODAY

Yep. We are in the muck.
At least make it fun.
Manage the slog with some generated joy.

Make yourself a party.
Today and everyday.
Use your 5 senses to inspire some fun.

SIGHT – Bring in a few flowers from outdoors to brighten you table or desk.
SOUND – Add some dance music breaks to your day.
SMELL – Rub some essential oils behind your ears.
TASTE – Arrange a small plate of tasty morsels to savor.
TOUCH – Slowly tickle your legs with a feather.

Interrupt the slog with some scheduled joy.
(I have a hot bubble bath on my calendar calling my name after dinner.)

Create Your After-COVID-Self – TODAY

Eventually we will be on the other side of this shelter in place time.
What message does your future self have for you?
Is she thanking you for the loving attention you gave to yourself with walks and meditation during the long PAUSE of COVID?
Or is she resenting the amount of food and alcohol you consumed to tune out the feelings you were feeling once you slowed down and spent time with your alone self?

Who do you want to be on the other side of this experience?
What results do you want to create for your After-COVID-Self?

Closer family relationships?
Newly acquired skills or certifications? Courses completed?
A more intimate and caring marriage?
Toned legs and abs?
A new yoga or meditation practice?

You choose.

Who will you be on the other side of shelter in place?

TODAY is the day.
Go out and practice.
We’ve got to generate some joy here.

You can survive the slog.

Please forward this email to a friend who may need a gentle reminder.

And most important.
Take care of you.

Here are 4 easy suggestions with a big impact:

1. Get enough sleep. Establish a bedtime routine and follow it.

2. Get outside every day. Rain or shine. Take a walk.

3. Appreciate what is wonderful in the world. Write 3 things you are grateful for every day.

4. Get a buddy. Call them every day. Ask how they are and what they are up to. Ask them if they need anything.

With all my love.
From my heart to yours,
Gail
