Feel Your Feels On Purpose

This is my gentle reminder to you.
Feel your feels on purpose.

Transform your feelings to fuel your actions.

Following last week’s post of saying yes when everyone else was a no.
Of setting and maintaining boundaries for YOU.
Giving your powerful YES or your powerful NO.

Within a sea of opposition.

All of that is usually followed by a tsunami of FEELINGS.

Like guilt. Or bad. Or wrong.
The spin cycle of self-doubt.
Fear of irreparable harm.

Holy crapola.
What to do with this boat-load of feelings?

You can go under and drown in all of it.
(Bye bye cruel world.)

OR you can use my 5-step Personal Flotation Device. (P.F.D.)
Your life jacket.
Don’t leave home without it.

My 5-Step P.F.D.

  1. Feel it.
  2. Name it.
  3. Describe it.
  4. Digest it.
  5. Transform it.

Feel it.

Don’t run. Don’t hide.
Can’t go over it. Can’t go under it.
Oh no! Must go through it.
(Watch the “We’re going on a bear hunt” video.)

Name it.

Mad. Sad. Scared. Glad.
The 1000 shades of any feeling.
Name it to the best of your ability.
Increase your feeling vocabulary while you are at it.
(Try Word Hippo)

Describe it.

As if you are talking with your doctor. Your general practitioner.
Where is it in your body?
Chest? Belly? Shoulders?
Give 3-5 adjectives to flesh it out.
Hot? Cold?
Heavy? Light?
Prickly? Sharp? Buzzing?

Digest it.

Share how you are feeling with a friend.
Draw it.
Find music that resonates with the feeling and dance it out.
Open your throat and shout it out.
Cry it out.
Stomp your feet, pound your fists and flail about.

Transform it.

Use your feelings to fuel your actions.
What is the result you want?
Ask yourself what you need to feel to get that result.
Feel that feeling on purpose.
If I want a loving relationship, I might want to feel love.
Fueled by my feelings of love, I act in a loving manner.

Infinite possibilities.

Today is the day.
Go out and practice.
Transform your feelings to fuel your actions.

Feel your feels on purpose.

“Feel Your Feels on Purpose” is one of twelve practices I teach within my Big & Bold program to help women like you stop “over-ing”.

Learn how to:
Untangle your thoughts,
Take care of you and
Dream big.

This is the work we do in my Big & Bold program.

Yes, you might be able to do this on your own.

But I can get you there A LOT faster, with more playfulness and laughter, with a lot less drama – and zero will power.

I will keep you on course.
We won’t get lost or side tracked or forget our final destination.

We’ve got this.

I’ve been there.

Stuck in the muck of my own mind many times.
A compulsive over eater.
An “over-er” in every flavor in the freezer.

And I’ve learned how to get myself unstuck and back in forward motion.

How to put my self care first.
And how to dream big and bold.

You can too.
I know what works. And what doesn’t.

Save yourself a lot of time and misery.

Stop spinning your wheels.
Get yourself unstuck from the muck and back in action.

I am filling my fall calendar.

4. Get a buddy. Call them once a week. Ask how they are and what they are feeling. Ask them if they need anything.
5. Give yourself a pleasure treat. Pick yourself some flowers. Take a nap. Read a novel. Do anything you want – just for the fun of it.

With all my love.
From my heart to yours.
