This week starts the transition between Christmas and the New Year.

It’s a time to slow down and take stock of where you’ve been and where you’re going.

In your relationships with yourself and with the people closest to you.

Complete & Celebrate 2021.

It’s the perfect time of year for reflection, completion and renewal.

The end of 2021 is the opportunity to pause and digest, to leave what is no longer needed behind in the past, and to take what you’ve learned and what you’ve gained with you into the new year ahead.

Complete & Celebrate 2021.

I’m going to describe a simple 4 step “recipe” you can use to complete 2021 and be open for the new year ahead.

You may have used a similar process to evaluate your performance at work, or to set goals for yourself, but today I want to focus your attention on – your marriage, of course.

Complete & Celebrate 2021.

I suggest keeping this as simple as possible. Don’t overcomplicate it.

All you need is a journal or some lined paper, a pen, a quiet location and an hour of your time.

Let’s begin.

Complete & Celebrate 2021.

Take a few deep breaths.

Maybe light a candle.

Play some soothing music.

Do whatever you need to do to calm your nervous system and bring pleasure into your ritual.

1. Start with gratitude.

What are you grateful for in your marriage?

Just let the thoughts stream from your mind through your pen and onto the paper.

Give yourself the time and space to get into a flow and fill the page.

2. Add a dollop of acknowledgement.

This is the time to tell the truth.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

What are you proud of?

How has your marriage grown this year?

What have you learned in the past 12 months?

Write it all down.

What are the aspects of your marriage that you avoid or ignore?

What are your unmet desires?

Who have you been in your marriage?

3. Fold in completion with care.

Keep writing.

Dump it all out.

The couldas, wouldas and shouldas.

Get it all out.

Release all that is done and all that is undone.

Grease it well with care and compassion.

Allow and accept what is.

Where you did succeed and where you didn’t.

It’s all OK.

We’re leaving it all in 2021.

4. Top it off with a generous sprinkle of celebration.

Declare 2021 done and complete.

Pop the cork and give a toast to celebrate your marriage.

Where you’ve been, what you’ve experienced, how you’ve grown.

Complete & Celebrate 2021.

Celebrate your accomplishments and learn from your mistakes.

Complete & Celebrate 2021.

That’s how your marriage will continue to get better and better.

And even better.

It’s the reflection and the writing and the letting go.

Celebrate and learn.

Repeat.

Complete & Celebrate 2021.

Your marriage.

Most important. Take care of you.

Here are 5 easy suggestions:

1. Get enough sleep. Establish a bedtime routine and follow it.

2. Get outside in nature every day. Rain or shine.

3. Appreciate what is wonderful in the world. Write 3-5 things you are grateful for each day.

4. Reach out to a sister. Call her once a week – or every day. Ask how she is and what she is feeling. Give her the space to release her feelings without any judgment or fixing.

5. Treat yourself to pleasure. Dance. Take a nap. Sing out loud. Read a novel. Soak in the tub. Do anything you want – just for the pleasure of it.

With all my love.

From my heart to yours.
