A Call To Pause & Re-Set

This is my gentle reminder to you.
Pause and Re-Set.

Normalcy is no longer. Look within.

Driving on automatic while daydreaming is no longer possible.
The events of the past two weeks have been a 5-alarm wake-up call.

8 minutes and 46 seconds.
A Call to Pause & Re-Set.

Collectively We Need a Pause & Re-Set.

I thought that’s what COVID provided for us.
That that was “the Pause”.

I was expecting a completely different Re-Set.

COVID set the foundation.
We already had turned inward to re-evaluate the treadmill we’d been on.
What we had known as “normal”.

A lot us had committed to realign our lives with our values once normalcy returned.
If that ever was to be.
The new normal.

And then it all went up in flames.

George Floyd was slowly murdered on screen by police officers Derek Chauvin, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng.
A knee on the neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

The fire alarm had sounded.
Our country and its foundation of freedom were on fire.

A Call to Pause & Re-Set.

Collectively We Need a Pause & Re-set.

A Pause To:
Assimilate how this tragedy happened on our watch, during our lifetime.
Inquire how we are subtly or directly complicit in institutionalized or systemic racism.
Educate ourselves in the history of all Americans. The history that has been erased and censored from our textbooks.

A Re-Set To:
Listen with Love and connectedness.
Interrupt racism with tenacity.
Share privilege with generosity.

Individually I Need a Pause & Re-Set.

A Pause To:
Feel all my feels on this topic.
Learn everything I can about anti-racism.
Determine the actions I will take that are in integrity with who I am and who I want to be.

A Re-Set To:
Be in conversation.
Listen with an open mind & an open heart.
Hold the space to take it all in with love.

8 minutes and 46 seconds.
A Call to Pause & Re-Set.

Today is the day.
Go out and practice.
Normalcy is no longer. Look within.

1. Get enough sleep. Establish a bedtime routine and follow it. 

2. Get outside every day. Rain or shine. Take a walk.
3. Appreciate what is wonderful in the world. Write 3 things you are grateful for every day.
4. Get a buddy. Call them every day. Ask how they are and what they are feeling. Ask them if they need anything.
5. Give yourself a pleasure treat. Pick yourself some flowers. Take a nap. Read a novel. Do anything you want – just for the  fun of it.
